Stoney Lake Memories
Stoney Lake
This cottage was a finalist for Custom Built Homes 2501-4000SF at the 2024 PKHBA Awards.
This traditional cottage, was built on an existing footprint maintaining the existing waterside views of the lake. Neighbouring our clients’ parent’s property, they wanted to construct a larger cottage to accommodate their growing family. We obtained this with minor expansion, a full second floor to house four bedrooms and an open concept layout for family gatherings overlooking the lake. To obtain the sense of being connected to the family-owned cottage next door – we included a side facing door for easy visiting. Since the design was married to the existing footprint on this tight lakefront property, there was limited room for expansion, but our design was still able to achieve unobstructed views from the prioritized great room and screen room to the lake while still maximizing the rear side of the building for utilities and bedrooms. We utilized every square inch of the building as the second level sloped ceilings offered great spaces for storage accessed by custom height pocket doors. We created a reading nook above the entry instead of a traditional covered porch. The client opted for a steel roof for added longevity and a generator for added reassurance during cottage country storms! Timberline navigated and executed our client’s sporadic layout changes during construction – resulting in the second-floor washroom becoming larger by altering the layout. As well as changes to the main floor layouts in the office laundry area as a result of Northey Contracting achieving a high enough crawl space during excavation to install the HVAC appliances, providing more space to assist with the compact main floor layout.
